DVS Analysis: 2015 College World Series

BACKGROUND

2015 represents the first year DVS scored each pitcher who pitched in the 2015 College World Series.  Our goal was to analyze a large group of collegiate pitchers and compare the results to our current data of youth and professional pitchers.

With the current DVS Score averages of our youth and professional data being so closely aligned (11.6 to 12.2), we wanted to see how close the average DVS Scores of the 2015 College World Series pitchers compared.

Also, we wanted to see if any specific mechanical patterns surfaced among any particular college represented in the tournament.

CONCLUSION

As we continue to study and score pitchers across multiple demographics, ages, and ability levels, it's clear that the average DVS Score for pitchers is between 11 and 13. This is an alarming stat considering all pitchers who score a 12 or below are classified as "extreme risk".  However, our 2015 College World Series group indicates a slight upward shift in the distribution of higher DVS Scores compared to our youth database.

The chart below provides a good representation of how the youth population stacks up to the pitchers in the 2015 College World Series pitchers.

Notice that the college players had a higher frequency of scores between 13-15, compared to the youth population, which saw their highest distribution of scores fall between 9-11. This trend reflects the overall average between both groups as well.

Looking ahead, our next DVS Analysis will be the 2015 Little League World Series.  It will be interesting to see if the pitchers' DVS Scores trended upwards, downwards, or remained constant.

Stay tuned.
